GRUB does not validate that the base address corresponds to a UART device, rather than being an arbitrary memory address. This allows an attacker to trick GRUB into writing non-arbitrary data at an attacker-controlled address, including resetting the grub_file_verifiers list in a way that disables the subsequent verification of loaded modules."}],"references":[{"url":"https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2026/09/13/5","tags":["mailing-list"]},{"url":"https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/gnu-grub/grub/-/commit/26beaa3b2720fefdc4d04c1ae209b776fe6848d6","tags":["patch"]}],"metrics":[{"format":"CVSS","scenarios":[{"lang":"en","value":"GENERAL"}],"cvssV3_1":{"version":"3.1","attackVector":"LOCAL","attackComplexity":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"HIGH","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"HIGH","integrityImpact":"HIGH","availabilityImpact":"HIGH","baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","baseScore":6.4,"vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H"}}],"credits":[{"lang":"en","value":"Leïth Essid","type":"reporter"},{"lang":"en","value":"Andrew Hamilton","type":"remediation developer"}],"providerMetadata":{"orgId":"cc1ad9ee-3454-478d-9317-d3e869d708bc","shortName":"canonical","dateUpdated":"2026-10-02T10:34:23.314Z"}},"adp":[{"metrics":[{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"timestamp":"2026-10-02T17:44:52.729699Z","id":"CVE-2026-97876","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"total"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","version":"2.0.3"}}}],"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","providerMetadata":{"orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP","dateUpdated":"2026-10-02T17:45:06.705Z"}}]}}
