All consumers\ncan then trust lcns_follow as the real capacity. This covers every\npage_lcns[] access whose index is bounded by the entry itself (the\nconversion memmove, the HotFix store via find_dp(), and the self-bounded\nscan loops). Accesses whose index comes from the log record need a separate\nbound and are handled in a follow-up patch."}],"metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","baseScore":7.8,"baseSeverity":"HIGH"},"scenarios":[{"lang":"en","value":"AV:L - log_replay() is reached only from ntfs_fill_super via ntfs_loadlog_and_replay while mounting a local NTFS block device; the dirty-page table is parsed from on-disk $LogFile, not from ksmbd, nfsd, or any received-packet path.\nAC:L - The attacker fully controls DIR_PAGE_ENTRY.lcns_follow and the restart table in a crafted $LogFile, so a value larger than the entry size reliably drives the v0 conversion memmove, HotFix store, and lcns_follow-bounded scan loops off the entry with no race or uncontrollable layout.\nPR:L - Triggering log replay requires mounting the malicious NTFS image (CAP_SYS_ADMIN). Unprivileged users can cause that mount via user+mount namespaces, loop-backed images, or common desktop/Android helpers (udisks/gvfs/USB automount) without init-namespace root.\nUI:N - No separate victim action is required: the attacker mounts their own crafted NTFS image (or causes automount of media they supply) and log replay runs automatically in ntfs_fill_super before any further file access.\nS:U - Corruption is confined to kernel heap during NTFS journal replay in the same kernel security authority; it is a local privilege-escalation/memory-safety issue, not a VM, IOMMU, or sandbox escape.\nC:H - Crafted lcns_follow makes DeleteDirtyClusters, HotFix, and dirty-page scan loops read page_lcns[] far past the kmemdup'd DIR_PAGE_ENTRY, disclosing adjacent kernel heap; that OOB read plus heap corruption yields arbitrary disclosure primitives.\nI:H - HotFix writes attacker-controlled LCNs and DeleteDirtyClusters zeros page_lcns[j] for j < the forged lcns_follow, overflowing the restart-table heap object into neighboring kmalloc data and enabling arbitrary kernel writes or control-flow hijack.\nA:H - Out-of-bounds heap access during mount-time log replay corrupts slab metadata or adjacent objects, causing kernel oops/panic, and a huge lcns_follow can also hang the mount path in a multi-billion-iteration scan."}]}],"affected":[{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["fs/ntfs3/fslog.c"],"versions":[{"version":"b46acd6a6a627d876898e1c84d3f84902264b445","lessThan":"0e07ea2fc45a7b4757ef7bf1f692cc0180a08323","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"b46acd6a6a627d876898e1c84d3f84902264b445","lessThan":"1e90b1703ee1a04cd3e9e399353fc536f5f3ba10","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"b46acd6a6a627d876898e1c84d3f84902264b445","lessThan":"d23155634a4bc1183e761d5eb2c043b2e693cc98","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"b46acd6a6a627d876898e1c84d3f84902264b445","lessThan":"1200c2779c43b62656ccbb67df9468a7a9af2484","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"b46acd6a6a627d876898e1c84d3f84902264b445","lessThan":"2d94ffc9d7b5bb3517b129fe63b52d84bcd4ae56","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"b46acd6a6a627d876898e1c84d3f84902264b445","lessThan":"0908da07c23be4f94b99dfd9a94765525f0fe4bd","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"b46acd6a6a627d876898e1c84d3f84902264b445","lessThan":"006cb7713dec10368e699abc4367e5faa334c9a5","status":"affected","versionType":"git"}]},{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["fs/ntfs3/fslog.c"],"versions":[{"version":"5.15","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","lessThan":"5.15","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.15.221","lessThanOrEqual":"5.15.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.1.188","lessThanOrEqual":"6.1.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.6.157","lessThanOrEqual":"6.6.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.12.109","lessThanOrEqual":"6.12.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.18.50","lessThanOrEqual":"6.18.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"7.2.4","lessThanOrEqual":"7.2.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"7.3-rc1","lessThanOrEqual":"*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}]}],"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15","versionEndExcluding":"5.15.221"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15","versionEndExcluding":"6.1.188"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15","versionEndExcluding":"6.6.157"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15","versionEndExcluding":"6.12.109"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15","versionEndExcluding":"6.18.50"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15","versionEndExcluding":"7.2.4"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15","versionEndExcluding":"7.3-rc1"}]}]}],"references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/0e07ea2fc45a7b4757ef7bf1f692cc0180a08323"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/1e90b1703ee1a04cd3e9e399353fc536f5f3ba10"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/d23155634a4bc1183e761d5eb2c043b2e693cc98"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/1200c2779c43b62656ccbb67df9468a7a9af2484"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/2d94ffc9d7b5bb3517b129fe63b52d84bcd4ae56"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/0908da07c23be4f94b99dfd9a94765525f0fe4bd"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/006cb7713dec10368e699abc4367e5faa334c9a5"}],"title":"fs/ntfs3: validate dirty page table on log replay","x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}}}}
