If it yields a value >= 7, this causes an out-of-bounds\narray access. Add a bounds check and return -EINVAL if the index\nis out of range.\n\nNote that the remaining value b111 is reserved so should not be seen\nin a correctly functioning system."}],"metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","baseScore":7.8,"baseSeverity":"HIGH"},"scenarios":[{"lang":"en","value":"AV:L - The vulnerable code is reached via local IIO sysfs reads of the channel scale attribute (e.g. /sys/bus/iio/devices/iio:deviceN/in_voltageX_scale), which flows through read(2) into ads1298_get_scale(); this is not reachable over any network protocol.\nAC:L - Once the CHnSET register contains reserved PGA encoding 111 (index 7), reading the scale attribute deterministically triggers the out-of-bounds access; a privileged attacker can reliably prime this state via debugfs direct_reg_access writes to CHnSET before the sysfs read.\nPR:L - The IIO scale sysfs attributes are world-readable (mode 0444), so any unprivileged local user can invoke ads1298_get_scale without elevated capabilities; no user namespace or real-root capability is required to reach the vulnerable code path.\nUI:N - Exploitation requires only the attacker's own read of a sysfs attribute or debugfs register write; no action by a separate victim user is needed.\nS:U - The out-of-bounds read and any resulting kernel fault occur entirely within kernel space on the same host; there is no crossing of VM, container, or IOMMU security boundaries.\nC:H - The bug is a one-byte out-of-bounds read past the end of the static ads1298_pga_settings array in kernel memory, leaking adjacent .rodata contents into kernel arithmetic used to compute the scale value.\nI:H - The out-of-bounds byte is consumed as the PGA gain divisor in kernel arithmetic, corrupting the computed scale and potentially causing a division-by-zero if the leaked value is zero, affecting kernel execution integrity.\nA:H - If the out-of-bounds read yields a zero gain value, the subsequent integer division in ads1298_get_scale causes a kernel divide-by-zero fault; any resulting kernel oops or panic constitutes total loss of availability."}]}],"affected":[{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/iio/adc/ti-ads1298.c"],"versions":[{"version":"00ef7708fa6073a84f6898fdcdfe965d903b0378","lessThan":"d5793975fc3b1780ba576812158ef22e3104e60e","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"00ef7708fa6073a84f6898fdcdfe965d903b0378","lessThan":"d08d82d83ed45fd8c001a9df66ad7ebb86c9d6c6","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"00ef7708fa6073a84f6898fdcdfe965d903b0378","lessThan":"abe0854e356b1bb814393ca884cb42b3eb12ce10","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"00ef7708fa6073a84f6898fdcdfe965d903b0378","lessThan":"abd776ded3e256889610595290f6ca46cb6e91ab","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"00ef7708fa6073a84f6898fdcdfe965d903b0378","lessThan":"95e8a48d7a85d4226934020e57815a3316d3a14b","status":"affected","versionType":"git"}]},{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/iio/adc/ti-ads1298.c"],"versions":[{"version":"6.9","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","lessThan":"6.9","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.12.95","lessThanOrEqual":"6.12.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.18.37","lessThanOrEqual":"6.18.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"7.0.14","lessThanOrEqual":"7.0.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"7.1.2","lessThanOrEqual":"7.1.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"7.2","lessThanOrEqual":"*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}]}],"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.9","versionEndExcluding":"6.12.95"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.9","versionEndExcluding":"6.18.37"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.9","versionEndExcluding":"7.0.14"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.9","versionEndExcluding":"7.1.2"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.9","versionEndExcluding":"7.2"}]}]}],"references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/d5793975fc3b1780ba576812158ef22e3104e60e"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/d08d82d83ed45fd8c001a9df66ad7ebb86c9d6c6"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/abe0854e356b1bb814393ca884cb42b3eb12ce10"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/abd776ded3e256889610595290f6ca46cb6e91ab"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/95e8a48d7a85d4226934020e57815a3316d3a14b"}],"title":"iio: adc: ti-ads1298: add bounds check to pga_settings index","x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}}}}
