A malicious or compromised network peer can supply the crafted frame during the connection/authentication handshake.\nAC:L - The attacker controls the frame tag, control-segment length, payload_len, and payload contents needed to reach the unchecked callout. No race or hard-to-influence system state is required.\nPR:N - The bug is reached before the peer has been authenticated by the client-side msgr2 handshake. The remote attacker does not need privileges on the victim system.\nUI:N - In a reasonable Ceph deployment, clients connect or reconnect to monitors, OSDs, and MDS daemons automatically as part of mounted filesystem or block-device operation. A malicious reachable peer can trigger the malformed AUTH_DONE response without further victim interaction.\nS:U - The impact is within the kernel/libceph client security authority on the same host. This does not cross a VM, IOMMU, or other separate security scope boundary.\nC:H - The missing bounds check lets a peer-controlled payload_len make auth callbacks treat memory beyond the received control buffer as valid input. This is an unbounded kernel out-of-bounds read, so confidentiality impact is High.\nI:H - Although described as an out-of-bounds read, the auth_x callbacks can decrypt and clear claimed reply data in place based on attacker-controlled lengths. With the required conservative scoring, this can plausibly become kernel memory corruption and is scored as High integrity impact.\nA:H - Reading or cryptographically processing beyond the allocated control buffer can fault, corrupt memory, or otherwise crash the kernel. The malformed handshake frame can be sent repeatedly by the malicious peer."}]}],"affected":[{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["net/ceph/messenger_v2.c"],"versions":[{"version":"cd1a677cad994021b19665ed476aea63f5d54f31","lessThan":"194cfe2af4d2a1de599d39dad636b47c2f6c2c96","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"cd1a677cad994021b19665ed476aea63f5d54f31","lessThan":"79fe3511db416d2f2edcfd93569807cb02736e5e","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"cd1a677cad994021b19665ed476aea63f5d54f31","lessThan":"ef208ea331ef688729f64089b895ed1b49e842e3","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"cd1a677cad994021b19665ed476aea63f5d54f31","lessThan":"2802ef3380fa8c4a08cda51ec1f085b1a712e9e2","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"cd1a677cad994021b19665ed476aea63f5d54f31","lessThan":"2d653bb63d598ae4b096dd678744bdcc34ee89e8","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"cd1a677cad994021b19665ed476aea63f5d54f31","lessThan":"818156caffbf55cb4d368f9c3cac64e458fb49c9","status":"affected","versionType":"git"}]},{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["net/ceph/messenger_v2.c"],"versions":[{"version":"5.11","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","lessThan":"5.11","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.15.198","lessThanOrEqual":"5.15.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.1.161","lessThanOrEqual":"6.1.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.6.121","lessThanOrEqual":"6.6.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.12.66","lessThanOrEqual":"6.12.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.18.6","lessThanOrEqual":"6.18.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.19","lessThanOrEqual":"*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}]}],"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.11","versionEndExcluding":"5.15.198"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.11","versionEndExcluding":"6.1.161"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.11","versionEndExcluding":"6.6.121"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.11","versionEndExcluding":"6.12.66"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.11","versionEndExcluding":"6.18.6"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.11","versionEndExcluding":"6.19"}]}]}],"references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/194cfe2af4d2a1de599d39dad636b47c2f6c2c96"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/79fe3511db416d2f2edcfd93569807cb02736e5e"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/ef208ea331ef688729f64089b895ed1b49e842e3"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/2802ef3380fa8c4a08cda51ec1f085b1a712e9e2"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/2d653bb63d598ae4b096dd678744bdcc34ee89e8"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/818156caffbf55cb4d368f9c3cac64e458fb49c9"}],"title":"libceph: prevent potential out-of-bounds reads in handle_auth_done()","x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"metrics":[{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"timestamp":"2026-06-16T20:34:59.073775Z","id":"CVE-2026-22984","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"yes"},{"Technical Impact":"total"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","version":"2.0.3"}}}],"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","providerMetadata":{"orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP","dateUpdated":"2026-06-16T20:35:08.838Z"}}]}}
