When new folios are allocated without being\nmarked uptodate and ni_read_frame() is skipped because the caller expects\nthe frame to be completely overwritten, some reserved folios may remain\nonly partially filled, leaving the rest memory uninitialized."}],"metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:N","baseScore":8.2,"baseSeverity":"HIGH"},"scenarios":[{"lang":"en","value":"AV:N - A remote SMB or NFS client can reach ntfs3's write path when a compressed NTFS volume is exported by ksmbd or nfsd. Writable NTFS-backed network shares are a reasonable NAS/server deployment.\nAC:L - No race is required; the attacker controls the write offset and length and can reliably end a write inside a newly allocated compression frame.\nPR:N - ksmbd supports anonymous guest-writable shares, including compressed directories whose new files inherit compression, so exploitation can require no credentials.\nUI:N - Once the share and filesystem are available, the attacker can perform the write, EOF extension, and read without victim interaction.\nS:U - The disclosure and limited data corruption remain within the host kernel and its filesystem security authority.\nC:H - Unfilled portions of an 8–64 KiB frame contain stale allocator data but are compressed, persisted, and marked uptodate. Extending EOF and reading can expose substantial kernel or cross-process memory, and the process can be repeated.\nI:L - Uninitialized bytes can become file contents instead of the required zero-filled extension, causing limited and value-uncontrolled data modification. The bug does not provide an arbitrary kernel write or control-flow primitive.\nA:N - The compression code keeps pointers, indexes, and output sizes bounded, so the uninitialized values do not crash a normal kernel. A KMSAN diagnostic on specially instrumented kernels is not a production availability impact."}]}],"affected":[{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["fs/ntfs3/file.c"],"versions":[{"version":"584f60ba22f79c89e6708ab82a5b5d9b8fa21fb2","lessThan":"dd6c81527d097b3b0bf5a15c2fdc9657d045144c","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"584f60ba22f79c89e6708ab82a5b5d9b8fa21fb2","lessThan":"5a30cc03bde169ad558695b26da6ea7e55f6194a","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"584f60ba22f79c89e6708ab82a5b5d9b8fa21fb2","lessThan":"41d79f8e2a36622d148719bf7c18b46ac1264284","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"584f60ba22f79c89e6708ab82a5b5d9b8fa21fb2","lessThan":"f223ebffa185cc8da934333c5a31ff2d4f992dc9","status":"affected","versionType":"git"}]},{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["fs/ntfs3/file.c"],"versions":[{"version":"6.11","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","lessThan":"6.11","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.12.75","lessThanOrEqual":"6.12.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.18.14","lessThanOrEqual":"6.18.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.19.4","lessThanOrEqual":"6.19.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"7.0","lessThanOrEqual":"*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}]}],"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.11","versionEndExcluding":"6.12.75"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.11","versionEndExcluding":"6.18.14"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.11","versionEndExcluding":"6.19.4"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.11","versionEndExcluding":"7.0"}]}]}],"references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/dd6c81527d097b3b0bf5a15c2fdc9657d045144c"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/5a30cc03bde169ad558695b26da6ea7e55f6194a"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/41d79f8e2a36622d148719bf7c18b46ac1264284"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/f223ebffa185cc8da934333c5a31ff2d4f992dc9"}],"title":"fs/ntfs3: Initialize new folios before use","x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}}}}
