This matches the WiFi frame-injection = Adjacent guidance.\nAC:L - The attacker chooses the channel (non-DFS 5 GHz UNII-3 channels 149-165 map to the furthest out-of-bounds offsets), and client devices scan those channels automatically and repeatedly; the uninitialized-memory disclosure via survey dump is deterministic on every boot.\nPR:N - `wcn36xx_update_survey()` runs on every frame at RX time, before mac80211 authentication/association, so an unauthenticated attacker with no credentials on any network triggers it. The corresponding read path is exposed through `NL80211_CMD_GET_SURVEY`, which carries no admin-permission flag and is dumpable by any unprivileged local user.\nUI:N - No victim action is required — wpa_supplicant/NetworkManager background scanning hops through the affected 5 GHz channels automatically, and a device merely operating on such a channel writes out of bounds on every received frame.\nS:U - The heap corruption and information disclosure are confined to the kernel's own memory and security authority, with no crossing into a hypervisor, IOMMU, or other separate security scope.\nC:H - `wcn36xx_get_survey()` reads up to 38 bytes past the 39-byte allocation and returns the values to userspace via the unprivileged nl80211 survey dump, and the missing zeroing leaks uninitialized kernel heap contents; the out-of-bounds access also provides a lever for broader disclosure.\nI:H - Received frames on high 5 GHz channels write attacker-influenced RSSI/SNR bytes at offsets 64-77 of a 39-byte allocation, corrupting the adjacent slab object — a heap out-of-bounds write, which scores High per the guidance.\nA:H - Corrupting neighbouring heap objects (and tripping KASAN/redzone or slab metadata checks) causes kernel oops or panic, and the write is triggerable repeatedly by any nearby unauthenticated transmitter."}]}],"affected":[{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/net/wireless/ath/wcn36xx/main.c"],"versions":[{"version":"29696e0aa413b9d56558731aae3806d7cff48d36","lessThan":"ae68efdff7a7a42ab251cac79d8713de6f0dbaa0","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"29696e0aa413b9d56558731aae3806d7cff48d36","lessThan":"e95f9c408ff8311f75eeabc8acf34a66670d8815","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"29696e0aa413b9d56558731aae3806d7cff48d36","lessThan":"64c4dcaeac1dc1030e47883b04a617ca9a4f164e","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"29696e0aa413b9d56558731aae3806d7cff48d36","lessThan":"34cd2817708aec51ef1a6c007e0d6d5342a025d7","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"29696e0aa413b9d56558731aae3806d7cff48d36","lessThan":"6200d947f050efdba4090dfefd8a01981363d954","status":"affected","versionType":"git"}]},{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/net/wireless/ath/wcn36xx/main.c"],"versions":[{"version":"5.18","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","lessThan":"5.18","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.1.129","lessThanOrEqual":"6.1.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.6.76","lessThanOrEqual":"6.6.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.12.13","lessThanOrEqual":"6.12.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.13.2","lessThanOrEqual":"6.13.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.14","lessThanOrEqual":"*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}]}],"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.18","versionEndExcluding":"6.1.129"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.18","versionEndExcluding":"6.6.76"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.18","versionEndExcluding":"6.12.13"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.18","versionEndExcluding":"6.13.2"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.18","versionEndExcluding":"6.14"}]}]}],"references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/ae68efdff7a7a42ab251cac79d8713de6f0dbaa0"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/e95f9c408ff8311f75eeabc8acf34a66670d8815"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/64c4dcaeac1dc1030e47883b04a617ca9a4f164e"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/34cd2817708aec51ef1a6c007e0d6d5342a025d7"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/6200d947f050efdba4090dfefd8a01981363d954"}],"title":"wifi: wcn36xx: fix channel survey memory allocation size","x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"scope":"UNCHANGED","version":"3.1","baseScore":5.5,"attackVector":"LOCAL","baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","integrityImpact":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","attackComplexity":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"LOW","confidentialityImpact":"NONE"}},{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"id":"CVE-2024-57997","role":"CISA Coordinator","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"version":"2.0.3","timestamp":"2025-10-01T19:31:20.546897Z"}}}],"problemTypes":[{"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","type":"CWE","cweId":"CWE-908","description":"CWE-908 Use of Uninitialized Resource"}]}],"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","providerMetadata":{"orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP","dateUpdated":"2025-10-01T19:36:42.332Z"}},{"title":"CVE Program Container","references":[{"url":"https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2025/03/msg00028.html"}],"providerMetadata":{"orgId":"af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108","shortName":"CVE","dateUpdated":"2025-11-03T19:33:08.950Z"}}]}}
