The impact is confined to the local machine's kernel, making Local the applicable and highest-severity reachable vector.\nAC:L - On an affected Meteor Lake platform (cs42l43 reported on link 0), the first link entry matches, `link++` steps off the end of the one-element `mtl_cs42l43_l0[]` array, and the out-of-bounds read occurs deterministically on every probe — no race, timing window, or memory-layout gamble is involved. The `.rodata` contents that follow the array are fixed by the build, so the outcome is reproducible on every boot of that image.\nPR:N - The SOF Intel driver binds automatically from its PCI ID table at boot and walks `snd_soc_acpi_intel_mtl_sdw_machines[]` with no authentication, credential, or capability check anywhere on the path. No account or privilege level is needed for the out-of-bounds access to occur.\nUI:N - Machine selection happens inside driver probe during kernel initialization, before any userspace audio access. No mount, file open, or other victim action is required.\nS:U - The out-of-bounds read and any resulting fault occur in the kernel's own audio driver on the same host, within a single security authority. No VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.\nC:H - Past the array end the loop reads a `u32 num_adr` and a `const struct snd_soc_acpi_adr_device *adr_d` from adjacent `.rodata`, then `snd_soc_acpi_sdw_link_slaves_found()` dereferences that OOB-derived pointer for `num_adr` iterations — an unbounded read at an address not constrained by any check, not a strictly bounded few-byte overread. The fetched `adr` values are decoded into part/mfg/link IDs and emitted to the kernel log via `dev_dbg()`, providing a disclosure channel for the out-of-bounds contents.\nI:L - The path is read-only — `link` is `const` and nothing is written out of bounds, so there is no memory-corruption or control-flow-hijack primitive. However, walking the unterminated array makes the loop evaluate unrelated link descriptors and reject the correct machine entry, so the driver selects a different machine descriptor and DSP topology than the firmware actually describes, a limited divergence of kernel configuration state.\nA:H - The out-of-bounds `adr_d` pointer combined with an out-of-bounds `num_adr` count can walk far past any mapped `.rodata` and fault, producing a kernel oops during driver probe. Even without a fault, the mis-terminated table causes the cs42l43-only machine to never be matched, leaving the audio device non-functional on every boot."}]}],"affected":[{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["sound/soc/intel/common/soc-acpi-intel-mtl-match.c"],"versions":[{"version":"f77ae7fcdc47630eb7653983f3c57ac44103aebc","lessThan":"01281a9e8275946aa725db0919769b8d35af3a11","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"f77ae7fcdc47630eb7653983f3c57ac44103aebc","lessThan":"bf6d7a44a144aa9c476dee83c23faf3151181bab","status":"affected","versionType":"git"}]},{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["sound/soc/intel/common/soc-acpi-intel-mtl-match.c"],"versions":[{"version":"6.10","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","lessThan":"6.10","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.10.11","lessThanOrEqual":"6.10.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.11","lessThanOrEqual":"*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}]}],"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.10","versionEndExcluding":"6.10.11"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.10","versionEndExcluding":"6.11"}]}]}],"references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/01281a9e8275946aa725db0919769b8d35af3a11"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/bf6d7a44a144aa9c476dee83c23faf3151181bab"}],"title":"ASoC: Intel: soc-acpi-intel-mtl-match: add missing empty item","x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"metrics":[{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"timestamp":"2024-09-29T13:49:23.635334Z","id":"CVE-2024-46862","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","version":"2.0.3"}}}],"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","providerMetadata":{"orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP","dateUpdated":"2024-09-29T13:49:28.174Z"}}]}}
