Per Bluetooth scoring convention this is Adjacent.\nAC:L - No race, no memory-layout grooming, and no timing dependency — a single HCI event carrying a connection handle above 0x0eff deterministically creates a bogus \"unset\" hci_conn whose teardown always hits the ida_free WARN.\nPR:N - LE ACL connections and broadcast/PA sync require no pairing, bonding, or authentication, and no local account is needed; the attacker only needs to be an unauthenticated peer in range of a host with LE Audio/ISO enabled.\nUI:N - The event handlers run automatically in `hci_rx_work` as part of normal LE connection and broadcast-sync processing; no victim action is required.\nS:U - The corruption is confined to the kernel's own Bluetooth connection and IDA state within the same security authority; no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.\nC:L - The `WARN(1, ...)` in `ida_free()` emits a full register and stack backtrace containing kernel text and heap addresses, giving a bounded KASLR-defeating info leak; there is no arbitrary read primitive.\nI:L - The erroneous `ida_free()` desynchronizes `hdev->unset_handle_ida`, releasing an ID still owned by another connection so the same handle can be issued twice and `hci_conn_hash_lookup_handle()` resolves to the wrong connection; the out-of-range handle also corrupts the PB/BC flag bits of outgoing ACL/ISO headers. This is bounded kernel-state modification, not an arbitrary write.\nA:H - The bug reliably triggers a kernel WARNING, which is a panic on the many deployments (Android, CI, hardened distros) running with `panic_on_warn`, and the resulting duplicate-handle confusion persistently disrupts Bluetooth connection handling."}]}],"affected":[{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["net/bluetooth/hci_conn.c"],"versions":[{"version":"f7e83f2278f06b577e3c92ea2f4e8e8c6fc72a8f","lessThan":"2ae8d7742a09c275872e670c53337b3dcedaa11c","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"84cb0143fb8a03bf941c7aaedd56c938c99dafad","lessThan":"4970e48f83dbd21d2a6a7cdaaafc2a71f7f45dc4","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"181a42edddf51d5d9697ecdf365d72ebeab5afb0","lessThan":"d311036696fed778301d08a71a4bef737b86d8c5","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"181a42edddf51d5d9697ecdf365d72ebeab5afb0","lessThan":"1cc18c2ab2e8c54c355ea7c0423a636e415a0c23","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"e9f708beada55426c8d678e2f46af659eb5bf4f0","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"6.6.2","lessThan":"6.6.39","status":"affected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.5.12","lessThan":"6.6","status":"affected","versionType":"semver"}]},{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["net/bluetooth/hci_conn.c"],"versions":[{"version":"6.7","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","lessThan":"6.7","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.6.39","lessThanOrEqual":"6.6.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.9.9","lessThanOrEqual":"6.9.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.10","lessThanOrEqual":"*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}]}],"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.6.2","versionEndExcluding":"6.6.39"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.7","versionEndExcluding":"6.9.9"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.7","versionEndExcluding":"6.10"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.5.12"}]}]}],"references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/2ae8d7742a09c275872e670c53337b3dcedaa11c"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/4970e48f83dbd21d2a6a7cdaaafc2a71f7f45dc4"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/d311036696fed778301d08a71a4bef737b86d8c5"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/1cc18c2ab2e8c54c355ea7c0423a636e415a0c23"}],"title":"bluetooth/hci: disallow setting handle bigger than HCI_CONN_HANDLE_MAX","x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"providerMetadata":{"orgId":"af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108","shortName":"CVE","dateUpdated":"2024-08-02T04:54:31.923Z"},"title":"CVE Program Container","references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/4970e48f83dbd21d2a6a7cdaaafc2a71f7f45dc4","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/d311036696fed778301d08a71a4bef737b86d8c5","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/1cc18c2ab2e8c54c355ea7c0423a636e415a0c23","tags":["x_transferred"]}]},{"metrics":[{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"id":"CVE-2024-42132","role":"CISA Coordinator","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"version":"2.0.3","timestamp":"2024-09-10T16:16:22.191923Z"}}}],"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","providerMetadata":{"orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP","dateUpdated":"2024-09-11T17:34:36.401Z"}}]}}
