So isb memory\nis still read after it is freed. Thus move wx_free_isb_resources()\nfrom txgbe_close() to txgbe_remove(). And fix the improper isb free\naction in txgbe_open() error handling path."}],"metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","baseScore":7.8,"baseSeverity":"HIGH"},"scenarios":[{"lang":"en","value":"AV:L - The vulnerable window is opened by a local device-management action — `ip link set dev X down` (`txgbe_close()`/`ngbe_close()`), an ethtool reconfigure that cycles the interface, or driver unbind/`rmmod` (`txgbe_remove()`) — none of which a remote peer can request. Received network frames cannot reach the code, since Rx and bus mastering are already disabled when the interface goes down.\nAC:L - Once the driver is in MSI/INTx mode (VMs, `pci=nomsi`, MSI-X vector exhaustion, and the ngbe 1G parts), the stale handler dereference is deterministic: after `ifdown` or during the multi-millisecond `txgbe_remove_phy()` window, the very next interrupt on the shared line hits the freed/NULL `isb_mem`, and the attacker can both generate that interrupt activity and repeat ifdown/ifup cycles to hit the narrow free-to-NULL window.\nPR:L - The trigger needs `CAP_NET_ADMIN` over the netdev's namespace, which is held by container/appliance \"root\" whenever a physical Wangxun port is delegated into a network namespace owned by a user namespace, so it is not a real-root-only operation. Any semi-privileged network-management context (NetworkManager helpers, orchestration agents, netns-delegated containers) can drive the close/unbind path.\nUI:N - The attacker performs the interface-down or unbind step themselves and the interrupt that faults arrives from ordinary ambient device activity; no action by another user or administrator is required.\nS:U - The freed DMA buffer, the faulting interrupt handler, and the resulting corruption/panic all live in the kernel's own security authority, with no crossing of a hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary.\nC:H - Upstream describes the defect as isb memory \"still read after it is freed\" — `wx_misc_isb()` reads a page already returned to the page allocator and therefore potentially re-populated with arbitrary kernel data, and a use-after-free on attacker-groomable memory is treatable as an arbitrary-read primitive.\nI:H - Beyond the read, `txgbe_misc_irq_handle()` executes `wx->isb_mem[WX_ISB_VEC0] = 0`, a write into the freed page; with ifdown/ifup cycling plus heap spraying the attacker can control what occupies that page, turning a fixed-offset zeroing write into kernel memory corruption usable against refcounts, flags, or pointers.\nA:H - In the far larger post-`NULL`-store window the handler dereferences a NULL `isb_mem` from hard-IRQ context, producing an oops in interrupt context (\"Fatal exception in interrupt\") that panics the machine, and this is reproducible on every ifdown or module removal on an INTx-shared system."}]}],"affected":[{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/net/ethernet/wangxun/libwx/wx_lib.c","drivers/net/ethernet/wangxun/ngbe/ngbe_main.c","drivers/net/ethernet/wangxun/txgbe/txgbe_main.c"],"versions":[{"version":"aefd013624a10f39b0bfaee8432a235128705380","lessThan":"efdc3f54299835ddef23bea651c753c4d467010b","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"aefd013624a10f39b0bfaee8432a235128705380","lessThan":"935124dd5883b5de68dc5a94f582480a10643dc9","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"ffe8a87463c8bb885c42ed54540d06ed041e76dc","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"6.8.12","lessThan":"6.9","status":"affected","versionType":"semver"}]},{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/net/ethernet/wangxun/libwx/wx_lib.c","drivers/net/ethernet/wangxun/ngbe/ngbe_main.c","drivers/net/ethernet/wangxun/txgbe/txgbe_main.c"],"versions":[{"version":"6.9","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","lessThan":"6.9","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.9.9","lessThanOrEqual":"6.9.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.10","lessThanOrEqual":"*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}]}],"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.9","versionEndExcluding":"6.9.9"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.9","versionEndExcluding":"6.10"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"6.8.12"}]}]}],"references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/efdc3f54299835ddef23bea651c753c4d467010b"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/935124dd5883b5de68dc5a94f582480a10643dc9"}],"title":"net: txgbe: free isb resources at the right time","x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"providerMetadata":{"orgId":"af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108","shortName":"CVE","dateUpdated":"2024-08-02T04:54:32.263Z"},"title":"CVE Program Container","references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/efdc3f54299835ddef23bea651c753c4d467010b","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/935124dd5883b5de68dc5a94f582480a10643dc9","tags":["x_transferred"]}]},{"metrics":[{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"id":"CVE-2024-42112","role":"CISA Coordinator","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"version":"2.0.3","timestamp":"2024-09-10T16:17:26.486889Z"}}}],"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","providerMetadata":{"orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP","dateUpdated":"2024-09-11T17:33:06.438Z"}}]}}
