If the second ff is a large offset.\nWe may encounter an out-of-bound read."}],"metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","baseScore":7.8,"baseSeverity":"HIGH"},"scenarios":[{"lang":"en","value":"AV:L - The vulnerable code is reached only through `mount()` of a crafted NTFS volume, whose `$LogFile` is parsed by `log_replay()` during `ntfs_fill_super()`. No network or remote peer is involved, and the image can be supplied as a local file/loop device rather than requiring physical media, so Local is the correct (and higher-severity) vector versus Physical.\nAC:L - Every field driving the bug (`rt->size`, `rt->used`, `rt->first_free`, `rt->last_free`, and the free-list words) is attacker-authored data in the image, so the out-of-bounds offset is chosen deterministically with no race, memory-layout guess, or environmental precondition.\nPR:L - ntfs3 is `FS_REQUIRES_DEV` without `FS_USERNS_MOUNT`, so mounting is not reachable from an unprivileged user namespace, but on desktop/kiosk/workstation deployments an ordinary logged-in local user can get an attacker-supplied NTFS volume mounted via udisks2/automount policy without any administrative credential.\nUI:N - The attacker performs the mount themselves (or automount/udisks2 does it the moment the device appears) and log replay runs unconditionally on every mount, read-only included; no separate victim has to open a file or take any action.\nS:U - The out-of-bounds accesses occur in kernel memory within the same security authority that already owns the mount; no hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.\nC:H - The unvalidated free-list walk performs 4-byte reads at attacker-chosen offsets of up to ~4 GB beyond the slab object, and the walk's outcome (terminate, hit `RESTART_ENTRY_ALLOCATED`, or spin) is observable through mount success/failure, turning the wild reads into a probing oracle over kernel heap contents.\nI:H - Because `check_rstbl()` is the sole validator of `first_free`/`last_free` before the tables reach `free_rsttbl_idx()`, `alloc_rsttbl_idx()`, and `extend_rsttbl()`, a corrupted list yields out-of-bounds 4-byte slab writes with attacker-influenced values (`*(__le32 *)Add2Ptr(rt, lf) = off_le`, `*last_e = *e`), which is heap corruption usable for control-flow-relevant metadata overwrite.\nA:H - A wild read up to 4 GB from the buffer readily faults on unmapped kernel memory, producing an oops/panic, and a cyclic free list makes the unbounded `for (off = ff; off;)` / `for (;;)` walks loop forever with no reschedule, hanging the mounting task and CPU."}]}],"affected":[{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["fs/ntfs3/fslog.c"],"versions":[{"version":"4534a70b7056fd4b9a1c6db5a4ce3c98546b291e","lessThan":"35652dfa8cc9a8a900ec0f1e0395781f94ffc5f0","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"4534a70b7056fd4b9a1c6db5a4ce3c98546b291e","lessThan":"818a257428644b8873e79c44404d8fb6598d4440","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"4534a70b7056fd4b9a1c6db5a4ce3c98546b291e","lessThan":"6ae7265a7b816879fd0203e83b5030d3720bbb7a","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"4534a70b7056fd4b9a1c6db5a4ce3c98546b291e","lessThan":"82c94e6a7bd116724738aa67eba6f5fedf3a3319","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"4534a70b7056fd4b9a1c6db5a4ce3c98546b291e","lessThan":"617cf144c206f98978ec730b17159344fd147cb4","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"4534a70b7056fd4b9a1c6db5a4ce3c98546b291e","lessThan":"50c47879650b4c97836a0086632b3a2e300b0f06","status":"affected","versionType":"git"}]},{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["fs/ntfs3/fslog.c"],"versions":[{"version":"5.15","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","lessThan":"5.15","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.15.164","lessThanOrEqual":"5.15.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.1.102","lessThanOrEqual":"6.1.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.6.43","lessThanOrEqual":"6.6.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.9.12","lessThanOrEqual":"6.9.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.10.2","lessThanOrEqual":"6.10.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.11","lessThanOrEqual":"*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}]}],"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15","versionEndExcluding":"5.15.164"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15","versionEndExcluding":"6.1.102"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15","versionEndExcluding":"6.6.43"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15","versionEndExcluding":"6.9.12"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15","versionEndExcluding":"6.10.2"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.15","versionEndExcluding":"6.11"}]}]}],"references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/35652dfa8cc9a8a900ec0f1e0395781f94ffc5f0"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/818a257428644b8873e79c44404d8fb6598d4440"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/6ae7265a7b816879fd0203e83b5030d3720bbb7a"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/82c94e6a7bd116724738aa67eba6f5fedf3a3319"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/617cf144c206f98978ec730b17159344fd147cb4"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/50c47879650b4c97836a0086632b3a2e300b0f06"}],"title":"fs/ntfs3: Validate ff offset","x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"title":"CVE Program Container","references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/35652dfa8cc9a8a900ec0f1e0395781f94ffc5f0","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/818a257428644b8873e79c44404d8fb6598d4440","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/6ae7265a7b816879fd0203e83b5030d3720bbb7a","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/82c94e6a7bd116724738aa67eba6f5fedf3a3319","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/617cf144c206f98978ec730b17159344fd147cb4","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/50c47879650b4c97836a0086632b3a2e300b0f06","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2025/01/msg00001.html"}],"providerMetadata":{"orgId":"af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108","shortName":"CVE","dateUpdated":"2025-11-03T21:59:21.968Z"}},{"metrics":[{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"id":"CVE-2024-41019","role":"CISA Coordinator","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"version":"2.0.3","timestamp":"2024-09-10T16:24:32.092884Z"}}}],"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","providerMetadata":{"orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP","dateUpdated":"2024-09-11T17:34:05.373Z"}}]}}
