The HTTP/2 protocol stack in Envoy versions prior to 1.29.3, 1.28.2, 1.27.4, and 1.26.8 are vulnerable to CPU exhaustion due to flood of CONTINUATION frames. Envoy's HTTP/2 codec allows the client to send an unlimited number of CONTINUATION frames even after exceeding Envoy's header map limits. This allows an attacker to send a sequence of CONTINUATION frames without the END_HEADERS bit set causing CPU utilization, consuming approximately 1 core per 300Mbit/s of traffic and culminating in denial of service through CPU exhaustion. Users should upgrade to version 1.29.3, 1.28.2, 1.27.4, or 1.26.8 to mitigate the effects of the CONTINUATION flood. As a workaround, disable HTTP/2 protocol for downstream connections."}],"source":{"advisory":"GHSA-j654-3ccm-vfmm","discovery":"UNKNOWN"}},"adp":[{"affected":[{"vendor":"envoyproxy","product":"envoy","cpes":["cpe:2.3:a:envoyproxy:envoy:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*"],"defaultStatus":"unknown","versions":[{"version":"1.29.0","status":"affected","lessThan":"1.29.3","versionType":"custom"},{"version":"1.28.0","status":"affected","lessThan":"1.28.2","versionType":"custom"},{"version":"1.27.0","status":"affected","lessThan":"1.27.4","versionType":"custom"},{"version":"0","status":"affected","lessThan":"1.26.8","versionType":"custom"}]}],"metrics":[{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"timestamp":"2024-04-08T14:58:49.679014Z","id":"CVE-2024-30255","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"yes"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","version":"2.0.3"}}}],"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","providerMetadata":{"orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP","dateUpdated":"2024-07-16T13:47:51.426Z"}},{"title":"CVE Program Container","references":[{"name":"https://github.com/envoyproxy/envoy/security/advisories/GHSA-j654-3ccm-vfmm","tags":["x_refsource_CONFIRM","x_transferred"],"url":"https://github.com/envoyproxy/envoy/security/advisories/GHSA-j654-3ccm-vfmm"},{"url":"http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2024/04/05/3","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2024/04/03/16","tags":["x_transferred"]},{"url":"https://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/421644"}],"providerMetadata":{"orgId":"af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108","shortName":"CVE","dateUpdated":"2025-11-04T18:30:33.889Z"}}]}}
