An attacker who uses a vulnerability present in versions 3.7.0 through 3.16.4 can craft a PDF which leads to an infinite loop. This infinite loop blocks the current process and can utilize a single core of the CPU by 100%. It does not affect memory usage. That is, for example, the case when the pypdf-user manipulates an incoming malicious PDF e.g. by merging it with another PDF or by adding annotations. The issue was fixed in version 3.17.0. As a workaround, apply the patch manually by modifying `pypdf/generic/_data_structures.py`."}],"source":{"advisory":"GHSA-wjcc-cq79-p63f","discovery":"UNKNOWN"}},"adp":[{"providerMetadata":{"orgId":"af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108","shortName":"CVE","dateUpdated":"2024-08-02T20:37:40.140Z"},"title":"CVE Program Container","references":[{"name":"https://github.com/py-pdf/pypdf/security/advisories/GHSA-wjcc-cq79-p63f","tags":["x_refsource_CONFIRM","x_transferred"],"url":"https://github.com/py-pdf/pypdf/security/advisories/GHSA-wjcc-cq79-p63f"},{"name":"https://github.com/py-pdf/pypdf/pull/2264","tags":["x_refsource_MISC","x_transferred"],"url":"https://github.com/py-pdf/pypdf/pull/2264"},{"name":"https://github.com/py-pdf/pypdf/commit/9b23ac3c9619492570011d551d521690de9a3e2d","tags":["x_refsource_MISC","x_transferred"],"url":"https://github.com/py-pdf/pypdf/commit/9b23ac3c9619492570011d551d521690de9a3e2d"}]},{"metrics":[{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"timestamp":"2024-09-05T18:52:16.129180Z","id":"CVE-2023-46250","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","version":"2.0.3"}}}],"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","providerMetadata":{"orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP","dateUpdated":"2024-09-05T18:54:52.306Z"}}]}}
