Each thread rewrite channels's descriptor as soon as\ndevice_issue_pending is called. It leads to the situation that\nthe driver thinks that it uses the right descriptor in interrupt\nhandler while channels's descriptor has been changed by other\nthread. The descriptor which in fact reported interrupt will not\nbe handled any more, as well as its tx->callback.\nThat's why timeout reports.\n\nWith current fixes channels' descriptor changes it's value only\nwhen it has been used. A new descriptor is acquired from\nvc->desc_issued queue that is already filled with descriptors\nthat are ready to be sent. Threads have no direct access to DMA\nchannel descriptor. In case of channel's descriptor is busy, try\nto submit to HW again when a descriptor is completed. In this case,\nvc->desc_issued may be empty when hisi_dma_start_transfer is called,\nso delete error reporting on this. Now it is just possible to queue\na descriptor for further processing."}],"metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","baseScore":7.8,"baseSeverity":"HIGH"},"scenarios":[{"lang":"en","value":"AV:L - The bug is in the HiSilicon Kunpeng dmaengine driver and is reached only through local DMA channel operations (dmatest/sysfs or in-kernel DMA_MEMCPY clients), not via network packets or adjacent-link protocols.\nAC:L - The attacker can create the race by issuing concurrent transfers on the same channel (e.g. multiple dmatest threads or parallel async_tx/RAID memcpy submissions); success does not depend on conditions outside attacker control.\nPR:L - hisi_dma registers public DMA_MEMCPY channels (no DMA_PRIVATE), which async_tx and similar clients can share; concurrent I/O from an unprivileged local user can therefore hit the race without real root, so PR:L is the higher-severity defensible choice.\nUI:N - Exploitation requires only attacker-controlled concurrent DMA submissions; no separate victim action is needed.\nS:U - Impact is kernel heap UAF/corruption and DoS within the host kernel authority; it is not a VM escape or IOMMU boundary bypass.\nC:H - The race frees or corrupts in-flight virt-dma descriptors (list-poison UAF), which can be leveraged for arbitrary kernel memory disclosure.\nI:H - Descriptor UAF from wrong completion enables heap reuse and control-flow hijacking primitives typical of kernel use-after-free exploitation.\nA:H - The bug causes a documented kernel oops on poisoned list pointers and can hang the system when transfers time out and descriptors are mishandled."}]}],"affected":[{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/dma/hisi_dma.c"],"versions":[{"version":"e9f08b65250d73ab70e79e194813f52b8d306784","lessThan":"af12e209a9d559394d35875ba0e6c80407605888","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"e9f08b65250d73ab70e79e194813f52b8d306784","lessThan":"7cb9b20941e1fb20d22d0a2f460a3d4fa417274c","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"e9f08b65250d73ab70e79e194813f52b8d306784","lessThan":"d4a8ec5cc7ff5d442bd49a44f26d74b2021ba4c8","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"e9f08b65250d73ab70e79e194813f52b8d306784","lessThan":"f4cee0b385cd0348e071d4d80c4c13cfe547c70d","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"e9f08b65250d73ab70e79e194813f52b8d306784","lessThan":"2cbb95883c990d0002a77e13d3278913ab26ad79","status":"affected","versionType":"git"}]},{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/dma/hisi_dma.c"],"versions":[{"version":"5.6","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","lessThan":"5.6","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.10.150","lessThanOrEqual":"5.10.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.15.75","lessThanOrEqual":"5.15.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.19.17","lessThanOrEqual":"5.19.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.0.3","lessThanOrEqual":"6.0.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"6.1","lessThanOrEqual":"*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}]}],"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.6","versionEndExcluding":"5.10.150"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.6","versionEndExcluding":"5.15.75"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.6","versionEndExcluding":"5.19.17"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.6","versionEndExcluding":"6.0.3"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.6","versionEndExcluding":"6.1"}]}]}],"references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/af12e209a9d559394d35875ba0e6c80407605888"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/7cb9b20941e1fb20d22d0a2f460a3d4fa417274c"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/d4a8ec5cc7ff5d442bd49a44f26d74b2021ba4c8"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/f4cee0b385cd0348e071d4d80c4c13cfe547c70d"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/2cbb95883c990d0002a77e13d3278913ab26ad79"}],"title":"dmaengine: hisilicon: Add multi-thread support for a DMA channel","x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"scope":"UNCHANGED","version":"3.1","baseScore":5.5,"attackVector":"LOCAL","baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","integrityImpact":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","attackComplexity":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"LOW","confidentialityImpact":"NONE"}},{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"id":"CVE-2022-50362","role":"CISA Coordinator","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"version":"2.0.3","timestamp":"2026-01-14T18:33:46.556259Z"}}}],"problemTypes":[{"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","type":"CWE","description":"CWE-noinfo Not enough information"}]}],"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","providerMetadata":{"orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP","dateUpdated":"2026-01-14T18:42:58.437Z"}}]}}
