The warning\nthat check emits is:\n\n  event svc_defer_recv has unsafe dereference of argument 1\n\nA \"%pISpc\" format specifier with a \"struct sockaddr *\" is indeed\nflagged by this check.\n\nInstead, take the brute-force approach used by the svcrdma_qp_error\ntracepoint. Convert the dr::addr field into a presentation address\nin the TP_fast_assign() arm of the trace event, and store that as\na string. This fix can be backported to -stable kernels.\n\nIn the meantime, commit c6ced22997ad (\"tracing: Update print fmt\ncheck to handle new __get_sockaddr() macro\") is now in v5.18, so\nthis wonky fix can be replaced with __sockaddr() and friends\nproperly during the v5.19 merge window."}],"metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","baseScore":7.5,"baseSeverity":"HIGH"},"scenarios":[{"lang":"en","value":"AV:N - The bug is in the SUNRPC server deferred-request path used by nfsd and lockd; a remote NFS/NLM peer drives svc_defer → svc_revisit/svc_deferred_recv over TCP/UDP without local access.\nAC:L - With the sunrpc svc_defer_* trace events enabled (a realistic NFS debugging/observability deployment), a remote peer can deterministically force request deferral via auth/export/idmap cache misses and hit the NULL deref with no race or layout dependency.\nPR:N - Deferral runs during svcauth_unix_set_client (AUTH_NULL/AUTH_UNIX) and related cache_check paths before meaningful credentials are established, so an unauthenticated network peer reaching nfsd/lockd is sufficient.\nUI:N - The attacker triggers the path solely by sending RPC traffic that causes a cache deferral/revisit; no victim user action is required.\nS:U - The resulting kernel oops stays within the NFS server host kernel under the same security authority; no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.\nC:N - This is a pure NULL dereference of dr->xprt in the tracepoint TP_fast_assign path with no out-of-bounds read, UAF, or other disclosure primitive.\nI:N - The fault is a NULL pointer read of xpt_remotebuf with no memory corruption, write primitive, or control-flow hijack beyond the ensuing oops.\nA:H - Dereferencing NULL dr->xprt in the enabled svc_defer_queue/svc_defer_recv tracepoint causes a kernel oops/panic in the nfsd/lockd service path, fully denying availability."}]}],"affected":[{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["include/trace/events/sunrpc.h"],"versions":[{"version":"ece200ddd54b9ce840cfee554fb812560c545c7d","lessThan":"85ee17ca21cf92989e8c923e3ea4514c291e9d38","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"ece200ddd54b9ce840cfee554fb812560c545c7d","lessThan":"726ae7300fcc25fefa46d188cc07eb16dc908f9e","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"ece200ddd54b9ce840cfee554fb812560c545c7d","lessThan":"c2456f470eea3bd06574d988bf6089e7c3f4c5cc","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"ece200ddd54b9ce840cfee554fb812560c545c7d","lessThan":"4d5004451ab2218eab94a30e1841462c9316ba19","status":"affected","versionType":"git"}]},{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["include/trace/events/sunrpc.h"],"versions":[{"version":"4.17","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","lessThan":"4.17","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.10.112","lessThanOrEqual":"5.10.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.15.35","lessThanOrEqual":"5.15.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.17.4","lessThanOrEqual":"5.17.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.18","lessThanOrEqual":"*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}]}],"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"4.17","versionEndExcluding":"5.10.112"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"4.17","versionEndExcluding":"5.15.35"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"4.17","versionEndExcluding":"5.17.4"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"4.17","versionEndExcluding":"5.18"}]}]}],"references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/85ee17ca21cf92989e8c923e3ea4514c291e9d38"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/726ae7300fcc25fefa46d188cc07eb16dc908f9e"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/c2456f470eea3bd06574d988bf6089e7c3f4c5cc"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/4d5004451ab2218eab94a30e1841462c9316ba19"}],"title":"SUNRPC: Fix the svc_deferred_event trace class","x_generator":{"engine":"bippy-1.2.0"}},"adp":[{"metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"scope":"UNCHANGED","version":"3.1","baseScore":5.5,"attackVector":"LOCAL","baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","integrityImpact":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","attackComplexity":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"LOW","confidentialityImpact":"NONE"}},{"other":{"type":"ssvc","content":{"id":"CVE-2022-49065","role":"CISA Coordinator","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"version":"2.0.3","timestamp":"2025-10-01T19:49:41.900091Z"}}}],"problemTypes":[{"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","type":"CWE","cweId":"CWE-476","description":"CWE-476 NULL Pointer Dereference"}]}],"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment","providerMetadata":{"orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP","dateUpdated":"2025-10-01T19:57:06.151Z"}}]}}
