Since\nthe cpu_mask parameter passed to irq_set_affinity_hit() has\nonly temporary storage (it's on the stack memory), later\naccesses to it are illegal. Thus reads from the corresponding\nprocfs affinity_hint file can result in paging request oops.\n\nThe issue is fixed by the get_cpu_mask() helper, which provides\na permanent storage for the cpumask_t parameter."}],"metrics":[{"cvssV3_1":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:H","baseScore":7.1,"baseSeverity":"HIGH"},"scenarios":[{"lang":"en","value":"AV:L - Exploitation requires reading the local procfs file /proc/irq/<N>/affinity_hint; the dangling pointer is only dereferenced in irq_affinity_hint_proc_show() and is not reachable from network packet processing.\nAC:L - Once the ENETC interface is up (normal boot/ifup installs the stale hint in enetc_setup_irqs), a single cat of affinity_hint deterministically dereferences the dangling stack pointer with no race or attacker-uncontrolled memory layout to guess.\nPR:L - affinity_hint is created with mode 0444 (S_IRUGO), so any unprivileged local user can read it; the dangling pointer is installed by privileged ifup as part of normal operation, not by the attacker.\nUI:N - The attacker directly reads the procfs entry; no victim action is required because the ENETC interface is already brought up during normal system operation.\nS:U - The stale pointer dereference and resulting leak/oops remain entirely within the kernel's security authority, with no VM escape, IOMMU bypass, or sandbox boundary crossing.\nC:H - This is a use-after-free read of freed/reused kernel stack memory that cpumask_copy() copies out to unprivileged userspace via seq_printf, enabling repeatable disclosure of kernel stack contents including pointers that can defeat KASLR.\nI:N - The affinity_hint pointer is only stored, read, and cleared; nothing writes through the stale pointer and it is never used as a function pointer, so the attacker gains no kernel-state modification capability.\nA:H - As stated in the fix, reading affinity_hint can cause a paging-request oops when the referenced stack memory has been unmapped (e.g. under VMAP_STACK), and the fault occurs while holding desc->lock with IRQs disabled, which can panic or hang the system."}]}],"affected":[{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"unaffected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/net/ethernet/freescale/enetc/enetc.c"],"versions":[{"version":"d4fd0404c1c95b17880f254ebfee3485693fa8ba","lessThan":"4c4c3052911b577920353a7646e4883d5da40c28","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"d4fd0404c1c95b17880f254ebfee3485693fa8ba","lessThan":"6c3f1b741c6c2914ea120e3a5790d3e900152f7b","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"d4fd0404c1c95b17880f254ebfee3485693fa8ba","lessThan":"6f329d9da2a5ae032fcde800a99b118124ed5270","status":"affected","versionType":"git"},{"version":"d4fd0404c1c95b17880f254ebfee3485693fa8ba","lessThan":"7237a494decfa17d0b9d0076e6cee3235719de90","status":"affected","versionType":"git"}]},{"product":"Linux","vendor":"Linux","defaultStatus":"affected","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","programFiles":["drivers/net/ethernet/freescale/enetc/enetc.c"],"versions":[{"version":"5.1","status":"affected"},{"version":"0","lessThan":"5.1","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.4.150","lessThanOrEqual":"5.4.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.10.70","lessThanOrEqual":"5.10.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.14.9","lessThanOrEqual":"5.14.*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.15","lessThanOrEqual":"*","status":"unaffected","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}]}],"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"operator":"OR","negate":false,"cpeMatch":[{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.1","versionEndExcluding":"5.4.150"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.1","versionEndExcluding":"5.10.70"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.1","versionEndExcluding":"5.14.9"},{"vulnerable":true,"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionStartIncluding":"5.1","versionEndExcluding":"5.15"}]}]}],"references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/4c4c3052911b577920353a7646e4883d5da40c28"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/6c3f1b741c6c2914ea120e3a5790d3e900152f7b"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/6f329d9da2a5ae032fcde800a99b118124ed5270"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/7237a494decfa17d0b9d0076e6cee3235719de90"}],"title":"enetc:
